    ONE-ON-ONE | JACK WHITTEN (1939-2018): FOUR SPIRITS

    July 8 - August 9, 2025

One single work by Bessemer, Alabama-born painter Jack Whitten is the focus of the gallery’s third “one-on-one” exhibition project, in which viewers are invited to discover one single work drawn from a private collection - in this case a 2011 Jack Whitten work on paper.

Having been able to include selections of the artist’s works on paper in exhibition projects throughout the early 2010’s and hosting Jack’s first one-person exhibition in his home state (“Ribbons of Honor” from March 11 to April 22, 2011), were important milestones for Maus Contemporary and an incredible experience, leaving everyone involved with a profound sense of gratitude and many memories.

Minimalist room with a white wall, a single small framed artwork, a closed door, and a metal bench with three blue cushions.
Abstract artwork divided into four sections with colorful splatters of paint on a white background, titled 'Four spirits for Lara Sofia,' signed and dated 2011.
