GUISELT THAIZ

The process of building and destroying
The discovering a thing and building on it.
Nature plays a huge part in it.
Putting a material on another material, produces its own organic reaction.
like baking something in sunlight.
And then sitting down and staring and staring at it
And then go to the next step
That´s action and reaction.

The award-winning works by the artist Guiselt Thaiz (Master Class of Prof. Josephine Pryde) consider the dynamics of the social and political dimensions of time and historicity, ask questions about the exploration of identity or also develop a critical relationship to the legacy of modernity. The artist succeeds in an artistic treatment that – never arranged didactically - a picture puzzle of thematic focus and sculptural room for interpretation. The encounter with the works of art in the room, which should soon be possible promote this stimulating sensory and intellectual experience.

- Prof. Dr. Norbert Palz, President of the Berlin University of the Arts, UdK Berlin

"Seeing and creating a painting from above, gives me an intimate and spontaneous drive to the process of it. While the color is the protagonist, taking out everything is stored inside. Violence, fragility, sensibility, and playfulness. Exploring themes in abstract psychological ways such as interpersonal relationships, being a woman, a foreigner, a stranger.
Color reveals the emotional temperature, and gives a clue ‘of what if this’ abstraction would be figurative. The saturation in color speaks out about my Caribbean roots, and now adding neutral shades after living in Europe."
